Fort Lewis College is celebrating its golfers for acing their final tournaments. The wins close out the team's best season in more than a decade. You're watching the local News Network, brought to you by the Payroll Department and Dunkin' Donuts. I'm Connor Shreve. The Skyhawks swung their way to three individual tournament wins this season, carding the first wins for FLC since 2015. Junior, Traejan Andrews got the ball rolling October 1st at the South Central Shootout in New Mexico. His five under performance was good enough for the program's first win since 2011.

I got mine at Ruidoso, and then unfortunately I wasn't able to play in Oklahoma and Tyler got it done. So having two individual wins on our team and then seeing Dimery win at Hillcrest, I mean, this program hasn't seen a lot of winning in a long time, so it's definitely helpful for our momentum.

Senior transfer, Tyler Tyson called his win three weeks later, "Scrappier than Andrews'." He was three strokes behind the leaders with just one hole to play.

It was kind of, it was funny. So my dad actually, he drove down there to come and watch and I was so far back, he actually left the golf course before the other kid even finished. So it was definitely like surreal when that putt in the putt-off dropped and that I was the champion. That was definitely not expected and took a little while for me to have that sink in.

Tyson birdied 18 and says he didn't expect to be in contention when he finished his round to force a three-way, sudden death playoff.

You're obviously nervous, but I wasn't nearly as nervous as I should have been going into the collegiate playoff, and especially with just the situation, I felt like I was almost just on house money when it comes to like the playoff. Like no matter which way it went for me, I was okay with the result. I was just happy to be there and I felt like I was pretty present.

Andrews' and Tyson's wins set the stage for Junior, Dimery Plewe, who waited for the Skyhawks' home tournament to capture the program's second women's golf win ever and first since 2015.

I love my teammates. They were all there when I won. Dumped water all over me. It was freezing. But I think, yeah, I've just loved being here and the support. And even going beyond the team, the support that I felt from the athletic administration here has been amazing as well.

Dimery's tournament was a tale of two halves, much like her season, neither of which she says started up to par.

We got to the back nine and I put a couple of birdies down, so I had got myself back to even on the front, was two under going into my last couple of holes. The competitors had some bad holes, I had a bad hole, and then I actually birded the last hole to kind of seal the win and take it home, so that was fun.

Plewe's performance earned her the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women's Golfer of the Week Award. She says First Year head coaches Shea Sena and Sean Griswold are building a winning culture. Andrews agrees with the program's direction.

I'm pretty optimistic about the off season. I think we can get some good work in and come out strong in the spring.

The Skyhawks begin the spring season at the Battle of the Desert in Borrego Springs, California, in February. Learn more about this story and others online at durangolocal.news. Thanks for watching this edition of The Local News Network. I'm Connor Shreve.
