The first Píinu Núuchi Farmers Market and Outdoor Biz Lab launches July 12th, offering both vendor space for growers and makers alongside live business workshop demonstrations. Vendor sign-ups are still available through the Southern Ute Economic Development Department. Help Smokey Bear celebrate his 80th birthday with the Ignacio Community Library this summer with the Smokey Bear Reading Challenge. Smokey Bear invites all to help celebrate his 80th birthday with the Smokey Bear Reading Challenge at the Ignacio Community Library. A new farmer's market and business lab starts Friday July 12th, offering business workshops alongside local vendors. For students interested in participating in school sports for next school year, physicals will be offered on a first-come, first-serve basis at Ignacio Middle School, August 2nd. The Southern New Economic Development Department is hosting a new farmer's market and outdoor business lab this summer, the market's feature 32 spaces for local vendors, as well as an outdoor space for demonstrations and small business workshops that will be hosted throughout the summer. Markets will take place every Friday from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with demonstrations, live music, and the workshops happening between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM. The first market is Friday, July 12th, and the last will be September 27th. There are still spaces available for vendors, but make sure to sign up before 9:00 AM, the Wednesday before the next market to avoid a late fee, the market will be in the KSUT parking lot. Come celebrate Smokey's 80th birthday at the Ignacio Community Library. The program which runs alongside the Library's Adventure Begins at your Library Summer Reading Program, and runs through the end of July, geared toward ages 4 through 10, although all ages are welcome, the challenge encourages participants to engage with reading about wildfire prevention, forests, and natural resource careers, while encouraging exploration of local environments. At the end of the challenge, join Smokey for his birthday party on August 7th, with prizes and the bear himself attending. For students interested in participating in sports for next school year, sports physicals will be offered August 2nd, at Ignacio Middle School it is first-come, first-serve, beginning at 8:30 AM and running until 1130. The cost of the physical is $30 and all proceeds will go back to schools for the students. If your student plans to participate in any sports during the school year, they must have a physical before the beginning of the school year.
