Blue Star Moms Honor Fallen Veterans with Flag Display

The Iron Horse Bicycle Classic is this Saturday, May 25th. The Colorado Department of Transportation would like to remind drivers that US Highway 550 will be closed to vehicles between Purgatory Ski Resort and Silverton during the event. The second annual Healing Field, put on by the Blue Star Moms of Durango, will be on display for Memorial Weekend at Santa Rita Park in honor of fallen veterans. The Boggy Draw trail system is open to the public again after conducting a prescribed fire across over one thousand acres to mitigate future fire risks. The Durango Chamber of Commerce is asking for volunteers this Friday, May 24th, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. to help with its 21st annual Downtown Clean Day. By Rachel Hughes. The Blue Star Moms of Durango are honoring fallen veterans with a display at Santa Rita Park. Though smoke may continue, the Boggy Draw Trail System is open to the public again. I'm Sadie Smith. The Iron Horse Bicycle Classic is this Saturday, May 25th, with the first wave of cyclists departing from 33rd Street in Durango at 7:30 AM. The Colorado Department of Transportation would like to remind drivers that US Highway 550 will be closed to vehicles between Purgatory Ski Resort and Silverton during the event. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes between 8:30 AM and 1:30 PM, and reminded to watch for cyclists all weekend, as cycling events will be taking place Friday through Sunday. An opening ceremony for Durango's 2nd Annual Healing Field will take place on Friday, May 26th, at 6:00 PM at Santa Rita Park, followed by a lighting ceremony at 9:00 PM. The display includes 500 United States flags, and is put on by the Blue Star Moms of Durango to honor fallen veterans during Memorial Day Weekend. The display will be available to view through the closing ceremony on Monday, May 29th. The Boggy Draw Trail System is open to the public again after conducting a prescribed fire across over 1,000 acres to mitigate future fire risks. You can expect to see smoke for the next few weeks as temperatures rise and the fields dry out. The Forest Service is patrolling the area, and has asked that people not report smoke inside their perimeter. The Durango Chamber of Commerce is asking for volunteers this Friday, May 24th, from 8:30 to 11:30 AM, to help with its 21st Annual Downtown Clean Day. Volunteers can meet at the Keller Williams Realty Southwest Associates for coffee, tea, and donuts, before being assigned to a cleaning team for a block of Downtown Durango.
