Durango Divo is gearing up for cycling season with a fleet of new bikes. You're watching the Local News Network, brought to you by Kroger's ACE Hardware and Happy Pappy's Pizza and Wings. I'm Connor Shreve. Thanks to an anonymous donor, Durango Divo has 15 Shiny New Trek Top Fuel Mountain Bikes Executive Director Nate Gron is eager to put those bikes to use.

We're excited to supplement our existing efforts to provide bikes to families who receive scholarships, other families that you know need a bike to be able to participate in what we offer. On top of that, we're going to have more bikes than we've ever had before, so we'll offer some of them as low cost season long rentals for Devo families. Reducing that phenomenon where a Devo family might need to get multiple bikes between sixth and 12th grade as their kid grows and grows and grows.

He says the purchase would not have happened without a new anonymous donor.

They were vaguely familiar with Devo and the work we do, and we spent some time sharing more about Devo, more about the Durango community and all the different programs we offer to get kids out on bikes. It ended up over a few conversations being a great fit, and so then after that the Devo team, myself and my colleagues, went out looking for a good partner to provide the bikes that this donor was eager to support for the program.

Devo bought the bikes with the help of title sponsor Second Half Sports.

They helped me shop with them just their wholesale pricing, like what they pay through the Trek wholesale store view ordering system, and didn't put any price on top of it, which is huge for us. And then they also really donated a bunch of time helping put the bikes together. They don't come looking quite this complete out of the box.

Greason wants to use the bikes to expand DeVos reach.

Can we get out with a school group where no one brings their own bike? 'cause we have enough bikes for a full group. Can we partner with non biking organizations in the community for one-off events? Lots of good stuff. That kind of opens up further a afield from our normal programming with this asset.

He says about 350 kids are registered for the Devo spring semester. Some chomping at the bit for a chance to get the new bikes dirty. Find more information about this and other stories at Durango Local News. Thank you for watching this edition of the Local News Network. I'm Connor Shreve.
