Looking for something fun to do to celebrate the 4th of July? Whether you're looking for good food, community events, or live music, Durango has multiple activities for everyone. You're watching The local News Roundup, brought to you by the Payroll Department and Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steak Burgers. I'm Sadie Smith. The city of Durango Business Improvement District, Durango Chamber of Commerce, Visit Durango, and the La Plata County Fairgrounds and Events Center have collaborated to bring 30 different events spanning July 3rd through July 6th. Kickoff the fun with a scavenger hunt of downtown businesses. Find the hidden hints and clues in the 13 participating organizations starting Wednesday, July 6th at 10:00 AM. Turn in the map with the completed clue by 5:00 PM to be entered into the raffle for the final prize. While you're at the hunt, make sure to stop by Hermosa Cafe to help with the community mural and track its progress over the four days. Get the celebration started on Wednesday, July 3rd with the Ice Cream Social and Civic Wins Jazz Orchestra concert and dancing at VFW Post 4031. The social starts at 5:00 PM and the music begins at 6:30 PM. Over at the La Plata County Fairgrounds and Events Center, The Western Roundup starts at 6:30 PM with doors opening at 5:00 PM. Thursday, July 4th starts off early at Rotary Park with the Annual All American Gourmet Breakfast starting at 7:30 AM Organized by the Rotary Club of Durango and Daybreak Rotary Club. The Freedom 5K Run, Stroll and Walk begins at 9:00 AM at Rotary Park. The event is free to join. So dress in your best patriotic gear and enjoy the scenic river walk. The Southwest Civic Winds Patriotic Concert starts at 9:15 AM at the gazebo at Rotary Park. Make your way downtown for the Building Homes for Heroes BBQ & Bands Picnic at Buckley Park, which starts at noon. Enjoy classic picnic fair like burgers, hot dogs and drinks, including a beer garden featuring Ska Brewing and Steam works. The Play It Like A Local 4th of July parade starts at 5:00 PM along Main Street. Following the parade, enjoy live music and a street dance at the Transit Center until the Fireworks Show weather permitting. Zambelli FireWorks are bringing back a live fireworks show starting at 9:15 PM. The fireworks will be visible from most of downtown Durango and Rim Drive with the Transit Center as the best location. Hopefully you've left some room as Friday is full of opportunities to eat your fill starting with the Oscar's Pie Eating contest at Durango Beer and Ice, starting at 1:30 PM. 11th Street Station hosts the watermelon Eating Contest starting at 4:00 PM. EsoTerro CiderWorks is hosting The July is for Pie Baking Contest at 5:00 PM and you might as well stick around for the Apple Slushy Slam contest starting at 6:00 PM. With the first Friday Art Walk and live music at 11th Street Station, just make sure to leave time to get to Buckley Park by 7:00 PM for music and movies with the Stillwater Band and the classic movie, "The Sandlot" over at the La Plata County Fairgrounds.
