Visit Durango is looking for responses from La Plata County residents regarding opinions on tourism in the county. The Leasing for Locals rental subsidy voucher program from the City of Durango's Housing Innovation Division has extended the deadline for applications to November 28th. La Plata residents are being asked opinions on tourism in the county through a survey by Visit Durango. The survey is designed to monitor residents' thoughts on tourism, especially in regard to minimizing environmental and social impacts, while at the same time, ensuring the economic prosperity of local businesses and residents. It is an opportunity to share ideas to help guide decisions impacting Durango's growth, communal life, and services. The survey is open now through December 31st. Everyone who takes the survey will be entered to win one of 30 gift cards worth $50 to a local retailer or restaurant. The new housing program Leasing for Locals Rental Subsidy Voucher Program from the city of Durango Housing Innovation Division has extended its application deadline to November 28th at 10:00 AM. The program will provide 30 multi-family below market rentals to the local workforce to help bridge the gap between income and market rate and affordable rental prices. It is a part of a two year pilot program at Gauge Apartments with American Rescue Plan Act funds. Of the 30 units, a mixture of one, two, and three bedroom units. 15 have rent set at 60% of the area median income and the other 15 will have rents set at 80% of the area median income. Housing solutions for the Southwest will review and approve applications in the order they are received. The City of Durango is set to begin a test parking plan to aid in snow removal and street sweeping. Beginning in December, one side of a street will be closed to parking from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM every other day. The first phase will cover a seven block area between East Second and East Third Avenues. Sign installation has begun and beginning Monday, November 27th, tow away signs will be installed and the Durango Police Department will start issuing warning notices. By December 4th, the program will begin, full compliance will be requested and towing enforced.
