Get ready for the biggest pet adoption event of the year. The La Plata County Humane Society will be hosting its annual Adoptathon. Whether you're a dog lover, cat enthusiast, or simply looking for a new furry friend, this is the event you won't want to miss. You're watching the Local News Network, brought to you by Dunkin' Donuts and The Payroll Department. I'm Sadie Smith. On June 7th and 8th from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, the Humane Society will celebrate the Adoptathon with reduced prices, local vendors, thrift store sales, and much more.
Humane Society's Adoptathon is our biggest adoption event of the year. It's over two days, and our goal is to adopt out 50 pets, so dogs and cats, and maybe a gerbil or two, over those two days.
The Humane Society offers a straightforward adoption process to match you with your perfect pet.
We ask guests to fill out an adoption survey. It's like a matchmaker survey to try to figure out what animal would suit you best. Then you can meet the animals, and if you have a favorite, we can pull one aside for you and you can meet them just one-on-one. And if you fall in love that day and you want to take it home, then we just go through the regular process. We take you through the paperwork. We let you know that all the animals have been vaccinated and microchipped and they're ready to go.
Along with reduced adoption rates, the Humane Society Thrift Store will be having storewide sales, and there will be local vendors with food and drinks, as well as a dog behaviorist to offer lessons and advice.
We are actually going to have music and the theme is 80s, so if you'd like to dress up, come in 80s garb and 80s hairstyles. And we're going to have wonderful food, sunny side hamburgers and brats, Coke products. We'll also have liquor from Star Liquor, and then we'll have pranaDOGS, which is our behaviorist here. Her name's Marcy and she helps any adopter. You get a free lesson with her either individually or in a group. And then at the Adoptathon, you can just come and ask her about any dog that you have, and she will give you free advice for that episode or that period of the event.
With help from the sponsors and vendors, the Adoptathon has a history of success and community support.
50 animals in two days, it's a gigantic feat for us, but the community is very supportive of the Humane Society, and usually falls in love with the animals. And so, yeah, prior years have been really successful and we're just hoping this one will top it off, 'cause it's our 20th year.
