Nominate An Exceptional Woman

If you know of an extraordinary woman who's made an impact on Colorado and its residents be sure to submit your nominations for the 2024 Colorado Women's Hall of Fame. Nominations can be historical or contemporary women who've made a significant and enduring contribution to their field or specific life focus who have elevated or affirmed the status and helped expand new opportunities for women and others in society, who've inspired others as a role model especially women and girls by her actions and behaviors and who have significant ties to Colorado. Since 1985, The Colorado Women's Hall of Fame has inducted 189 women from all walks of life, homemakers, Nobel Prize winners, authors, community and governmental leaders, some known outside of Colorado and others who were pioneers in their small communities. Nominations for this year's class, which will be celebrated at the Colorado Hall of Fame's 40th anniversary close February 1st, 2024. Merely Players presents the premier of, "A Slow Crawl Towards Heaven," an immersive experience of recollection, combining facts and storytelling to shed light on untold narratives of black spiritual lineages. The performance, a dance theater production, created and danced by Javon Ja'Moon Jones tells stories of the African and Black diaspora through a mixed medium of dance, text, and sound. Jamun created the show through residences in Colorado, New Mexico, California, and New York and invites the audience to participate in the experience. The show premiered August 18th but there is still time to catch it, August 25th and 26th at 7:00 PM and August 27th at 2:00 PM at Merely Players Underground in the Tech Center. Tickets are $25. Durango School District 9-R has announced there are two Board of Education openings for the 2023 election in districts B and D. The seats are four year terms and school board members are part of a team that creates, edits, and advises policy at the school level. Begin the process by picking up a packet at the district administrative office and filing a nomination petition signed by at least 50 eligible electors from throughout the school district.
