The City of Durango has opened a questionnaire for the Downtown Next Step's preliminary design for the 600 and 700 blocks of Main, and the Summer food program launches the first week of June. Hiking in the Southwest means encountering all sorts of wildlife, some less friendly than others. Durango Kennel Club is offering rattlesnake avoidance training this Saturday, June 1st at the Sky Ute Fairgrounds. Led by a professional dog trainer, dogs will learn how to identify rattlesnakes by scent, sound, and sight, and know to avoid the snakes through exposure to live rattlesnakes under control of an experienced handler. The cost of the training is $100 and is not a regular class offering, so make sure to take advantage to save vet bills of over $300. The City of Durango is hosting an online questionnaire for the preliminary design for Downtown's Next Step along the 600 and 700 blocks of Main Street. The feedback from the questionnaire will be used to prioritize design elements along the selected blocks. There are four $25 gift cards that will be part of a prize drawing when the questionnaire closes on June 7th. The food Service program is administered by the US Department of Agriculture, Food, and Nutrition Services. The program is open to all children 18 and under who go to an approved site. Food will be available Monday through Thursday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM until August 1st. The table will be set on the north side of the park.
