Museum on Main Street Coming to Ignacio

Colorado Humanities partnered with Museum on Main Street to bring the exhibition “Crossroads: Change in Rural America” to Ignacio starting April 29th. Explore the history of rural America in the 20th Century and how it relates to the community of Ignacio with the month-long exhibit. Free Ute Language classes are offered every Friday through the Southern Ute Education Department to tribal members and employees. The Ignacio Out and Equal Alliance will host the first QueerMunity conference this summer, and keep an eye out for its monthly book club. By Hannah Robertson. Colorado Humanities partnered with Museum on Main Street to bring the exhibition Crossroads: Change in Rural America to Ignacio starting April 29th. The Southern Ute Education Department is offering free Ute language classes every Friday to tribal members and employees. The Ignacio Out & Equal Alliance will host the first Queermmunity conference this summer with workshops geared towards 2SLGBTQ+ and BIPOC. Learn about the evolution of rural American communities in the 20th century with Museum on Main Street this summer. Museum on Main is part of the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service, which provides access to the Smithsonian for small towns in America through museum exhibits, educational resources, and programming. The exhibit Crossroads: Change in Rural America will include interactive and hands-on learning opportunities to encourage engagement with the materials and reflection on Ignacio's history. The exhibit will take place from April 29th through June 8th. For tribal members and employees interested in learning Ute, the Southern Ute Education Department is offering free language classes. The one hour sessions are from noon to one at the Leonard C Burch Building. A light lunch and materials are provided. The classes are offered through May 31st. Colorado News Collaborative is doing a Voter Voices 2024 survey to ask voters what they want their candidates to talk about as they compete for your votes. More than 30 news outlets across the state are participating to support voter centered election coverage. Visit Colorado News Collaborative's website to share your thoughts. The Ignacio Out & Equal Alliance, IOEA, will be hosting its first Queermunity conference this June. Workshops will be geared towards the SLGBTQ+ community of Ignacio and the surrounding area, and will provide advice and information to participants. The in-person conference will be June 28th, but you don't have to wait until June to take part in an IOEA event. The first book club will take place May 6th. Be sure to sign up by Friday, April 26th.
