Durango high school students enjoyed a sweet visit from rocky mountain chocolate factory as part of the impact centers career connections program great lede! you’re watching the local news network, brought to you by Tafoya, Barrett & associates and FLC center for innovation. i’m Connor Shreve. Durango high schools career connect program gives students a chance to interact with local business leaders. senior Sydney Vassar has developed personal relationships with companies to which she’ll soon be applying…

Soundbite: Definitely coming in here and listening to the career Connect Southwest. Like moderation, it helps to understand, like where they're coming from, what the business is, rather than trying to play phone tag or setting up an interview. I feel like this is a great way to, like, really connect with a kind of like business or setting that you'd want to be in.

With Valentine's Day On Friday, February 14Th, The Most Recent Visit From Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory Was Especially Sweet. Senior Vice President Of Information Technology Ryan McGrath Says It’s Important For Durango’s Only Publicly Traded Company To Be Visible…

Soundbite: We're one of the larger employers in town. and we value we value the community. We've been here for over 40 years. And, look for opportunities to interact with the community. Me personally, I love coaching, I love interacting, and and this is where we can kind of meet the community. And, for something other than chocolate.

The duo from Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory highlighted how important people are to the workplace…

Soundbite: Especially when Ryan said, be the dumbest person in the room. Like it's better to have people that are around you that are smarter or like, know what they're doing and just how they like, rely on each other. I feel like that's a big takeaway of like, definitely making sure that you're relying on others because other people are going to help you a lot more than you're going to help yourself.

Vassar says the career connect series is just one of the ways students can use the new Impact Innovation Center to gain real world experience…

Soundbite: Especially as a graphic designer. So when we first held the first event here for Career Connect Southwest, I was able to design all the fliers and help companies come in and get signed up. And it's been a great way to like, connect with companies. I've been able to meet companies and like look at how they want an internship, how they just kind of want to run this building.

The public can use the Innovation Center outside of school hours.
