If you've been in Durango for more than a couple of years, you know we like to go crazy with our holiday events, starting the day after Thanksgiving. Here's a brief roundup. Sponsored by Downs, McDonough, Cowan & Foley, LLC and Closets Plus
Thanksgiving seems to be the start of a cascade of community holiday events. So to help, here's your roundup of a few important dates. You're watching the Local News Network brought to you by the law firm of Downs McDonough Cowan and Foley, and by Closets Plus. I'm Wendy Graham Settle. Start your holidays with the downtown business district's Singing With Santa and tree lighting event on Friday, November 26th. The event starts at 6PM in the TBK Bank parking lot at 259 West 9th St. But plan to arrive between 5:30 and 5:45PM. Each child will receive one free glowstick while supplies last. When Santa arrives at 6PM, the precessional will follow him to Buckley Park for the tree lighting ceremony. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served while supplies last. Santa will be available for pictures, but bring your own camera. Visit downtowndurango.org. If you're like many generous Durango area residents, you probably make a charitable donation during the holidays. Make your donation though Southwest Colorado Gives, a safe, secure, and easy platform for donors to contribute online to local nonprofits. The community foundation serving Southwest Colorado offers the platform as a local portal for the statewide Colorado Gives Day on December 7th. The site is live now and will be open through December 7th. Southwest Colorado Gives is sponsored locally by First Southwest Bank and the Valentine Family Fund. Make your local donation to your favorite local charity or charities, through swcogives.org. When local first decided to cancel the tradition Noel Nite, shopping event this year, due to higher COVID transmission rates in the county, downtown Durango merchants decided to step into the void. Noel Nite, that's N-I-T-E, will host a day and night of shopping on Friday, December 3rd. More than 80 businesses will offer deals and discounts and holiday fun. And most will stay open until 9PM. Learn more about participating businesses at durangodowntown.org/noelnite. Thanks for watching our pre-holiday roundup on the Local News Network, I'm Wendy Graham Settle.
