Presented by the Durango Business Improvement District, the event is free to attend and will include a holly jolly gift card drawing, a kids scavenger hunt, tree lighting, Christmas carols, and photos with Santa. Remember to bring your own mug for free hot chocolate. Southwest Colorado is celebrating America's 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and Colorado's 150th year of statehood. While the official anniversary is in 2026, Southwest Colorado is starting the party early on Wednesday, November 20th at the Durango & Silverton Railroad Museum. The launch party will begin at 5:30 PM and will include information on the event and how you can join the planning. The La Plata Family Center Coalitions project Merry Christmas has begun and is now accepting donations. You can participate by donating three different ways: dropping off toys in the designated boxes found at participating businesses around Durango, giving monetarily, or sponsoring a child. Once a sponsor request has been submitted, you'll receive a wishlist of three to five items per child. All proceeds from Project Merry Christmas, formerly called the Holly Jolly Toy Drive, benefit families in La Plata County. For more information, visit the La Plata Family Centers Coalition website. The Blue Star Moms of Durango are seeking sponsors for the Wreaths Across America campaign to honor fallen military veterans. The Blue Star moms aim to raise $20,000 by Thanksgiving to secure 1,300 wreaths for Greenmount Cemetery. National Wreaths Across America Day will be held on Saturday, December 14th with participating locations in all 50 states. The Durango event will begin with a police escort to Greenmount Cemetery at 9:30 AM, followed by the wreath laying ceremony at 10 AM. To purchase wreaths, visit the Blue Star Moms of Durango website.
