The start of school is just a couple of weeks away, so make sure your student is registered for the new school year. Ignacio Community Library is ready for the school year with online resources for students and parents, and a return of some favorite group programs. The eighth annual Green Chili Fest, hosted by the Ignacio Chamber of Commerce returns at the end of the month. And for some zip codes, the La Plata County Humane Society is offering free spay/neuter for pets. Ignacio Community Library is ready for back to school with a variety of programs, resources, and more to support teachers, students, and families. For teachers and homeschooling parents, the library is offering Education Station, a digital resource with full curricula for all students and subjects ranging from pre-K through fifth grade. There is also a full library of other online resources that offer subjects and classes through high school. After school activities, like Wednesday's Teen Club and Silly Science will return in September, and don't forget the monthly Teen Night on September 23rd. Just because the summer reading program has come to an end, don't delete the Beans Stock app just yet. Reading Challenge Programs will return this fall to encourage everyone to keep reading during the busier school months. Ignacio School District goes back to school on August 19th. Online registration is now open. For returning students and families, log onto the Infinite Campus portal to make sure everything is in order. New students and families, follow the online prompts to make a new account in Infinite Campus to register your student. On August 15th, there will be an open house from 4:30 to 7:00 PM for students at the elementary, middle, and high school. The first day of Goul Athletics is August 12th. Make sure you have all your paperwork and physical ready before the fall season starts. Come join the Ignacio Chamber of Commerce for the eighth annual Green Chili Fest on Saturday, August 31st. The event will feature live music, local vendors, and lots of green chili. Hone your skills and recipe at the Perfecting Your Almost Perfect Green Chili Sauce class at the ICL on Thursday, August 29th. La Plata County Humane Society is offering free spay/neuter to anyone living in the 81122, 81137, and 81326 area codes. Space is limited, so sign up online to reserve a spot. The benefits includes pet overpopulation prevention, avoiding the cost of an unwanted litter, and eliminating unwanted behaviors like aggression, wandering, and marking. The Colorado Secretary of State is hosting a contest for a new “I Voted” sticker for this year’s elections, open to all enrolled high school and homeschooled students between ages 13-18. The La Plata Economic Development Alliance has announced the awards for the third round of the Catalyst Housing Funds, with two awardees from Durango and one from Bayfield. The Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles encourages Colorado residents to participate in the KOSI 101.1 Teddy Bear Patrol by donating new stuffed animals at participating DMV offices through Wednesday, September 4th, and the Wibit Aqua Park will close for the season on September 2nd. Olympians Return Home

Christopher Blevins, Riley Amos and Savilia Blunk returned to Durango following their Olympic mountain bike races. Durango’s Team USA members enjoyed a competitive respite following the Paris Games. Get Ready for the School Year

Durango School District 9-R has released a new plan to keep traffic congestion at Durango High School down during pick-up and drop-off. Durango High School and Miller Middle School students will have a staggered start, and separate zones for families to drop off. San Juan Mountain Association is offering an after-school program on Thursdays in September, October, and November. Aztec Development Gets Grant Funding

The Northwest New Mexico Arts Council is one of 100 nonprofits nationwide to earn a grant from Lowe’s Hometowns to invest in the community. The money is being used to develop the outdoor space at the newly opened historic Leanor Hotel. The space will be used to teach underserved teens service industry skills. The Mesa Verde Project

Grandview Interchange Opens

On Saturday, July 14th, the U.S. Highway 550 Grandview Interchange opened with traffic shifting from Farmington Hill to the Bridge to the Future. Upcoming Equine Film Fest Celebrates Local Mustangs

National touring film & arts fest Equus will visit the four corners for the first time on July 26 - 28 in Aztec, New Mexico.
