The River Roost Apartments offers a different take on obtainable housing in Durango. A hotel conversion apartment complex, River Roost aims to attract residents with a love for the outdoor lifestyle and minimalistic aesthetic. A large common room, a well-equipped fitness center, and a communal working space aid in building the sense of community the Roost brand aspires to have in its complexes. Although the River Roost has only recently opened, the excitement for starting something different is palpable. By Hannah Robertson. Durango is known for many things, housing is not one of those. River Roost Apartments is looking to change the game for people looking for housing that suits their lifestyle with minimalist apartment spaces that help maximize your outdoor life. You're watching the "Local NEWS Network" brought to you by ServiceMaster Restore and 2180 Lighting & Design Studio. I'm Wendy Graham Settle.
Our slogan is live small, play large and we're bringing obtainable housing to areas and repurposing. This was an old motel, repurpose it to make it, you see the scenery and the vibe here. A really chic kind of place to live that has small living quarters but full amenities.
The apartments which are located at the old Durango Downtown Inn next to Applebee's boasts 140 studio units completely renovated with new appliances and gear storage. Indoor common spaces include a large common area furnished with couches and chairs for gatherings, a well-equipped fitness space and a communal workspace designed for people working remotely. Situated alongside the Animas River, the property is just a short walk from all the amenities of Downtown Durango.
There aren't a lot of properties that have full scale amenities or if they do have amenities, they're not as flashed out as they are here, so we do have this great lounge, we've got the gym. We've got a pet spa that's coming up, that's going to be available a little bit later down the line when other buildings come up. But just being able to have that to offer to our residents is not typical. And even at one of the other properties I oversee, we don't have amenities at all. So that's a nice thing to have. And then we do have the Gear Lab which is in our office so we can check out things for if you're going hiking, if you need a hammock, if you need trekking poles, a backpack, a camelback, a lot of cool stuff like that. So, one, huge space saver. You don't have to worry about keeping that in your apartment.
River Roost Apartments are considered attainable housing. The units are not subsidized by any government funding. The River Roost is funded by private investors enabling it to create a unique living experience for its residents beyond what may be expected from affordable housing. The amenities at River Roost encourage its residents to live their own life. The community managers will host weekly events, but there's always the option to stay in your room for the evening. The laundry room overlooking the Animas River even has a foosball table to occupy your time while you wait.
We're close to so many things. Main Street is a stone's throw away. You've got the grocery stores, everything you need is right here and then you get the added benefit of a free gym or our co-working space where if we have students, they can study, they can print things. If you work remotely, you can go work in there. Just a nice quiet space and then this really cool game lounge. If you're hosting people over for the holidays, this is a great place to bring 'em.
The studio apartments come equipped with kitchens complete with convection microwaves, quartz countertops and retro style refrigerators. Although the rooms may be on the small side, there is some storage available in the rooms, as well as additional storage in the complex. All areas of the complex are accessible via an app on your phone. No more forgetting keys. And community-wide wifi ensures you stay connected at all times.
And really what it's about is a win-win all the way around for all the players involved and putting out a product that when I'm in town, I stay at the Roost, like I'm not staying somewhere else. I'm going to be in the gym, I'm going to work out. I'm going to be on the trail, I'm going to run. Like, I live, so it's like, to me it was a no-brainer because I live the brand. That's my lifestyle.
River Roost is now accepting applications for the 40 apartments currently available. The rest of the apartments will be available to rent later this spring.
