La Plata County is full of events for everyone over the next couple of months. A farmer's training convergence at the old Fort will feature speakers in workshops geared towards landowners, farmers, and community members in the southwest. Fort Lewis College is looking for small businesses to sign up for its fall Job Fair, an opportunity to network with first year students. Registration for this fall's Economic Development Alliance Summit is now open. And La Plata County is looking for feedback as it starts to craft its master plan. The old Fort at Hesperus will host the Farmer's Training Convergence, a day long event featuring a variety of workshops and presentations tailored to Southwest Colorado. Morning sessions include a pollinator workshop, tours of the old Fort, workshops on accessing USDA programs, and updates from the Southwest Equitable Land Access Collaboration. In the afternoon, there will be a Promoting Land Access Pathways workshop, and a talk with author and podcast host, Jennifer Jewel. The full day costs $35, and includes lunch, or come for the afternoon sessions for free. Fort Lewis College is hosting its part-time Job Fair on August 25th, and is looking for local businesses to register to participate. The fair is an opportunity for local businesses to network with first year students, and offer students a way to find part-time jobs. The fair hosted by the Fort Lewis College Career and Life Design Center will go from noon to 2:00 PM. Registration is now open for the La Plata County Economic Development Alliance Economic Summit. This year's summit on September 19th will feature the theme of people, place, and purpose. The summit will focus on the core aspects driving work in the region in the day long event at the Sky Ute Casino Convention Center. The event will feature a variety of keynote speakers, breakout sessions, and networking opportunities. La Plata County Fairgrounds and Event Center is asking for community input on its master planning process. The new master plan will help guide improvements at the existing fairgrounds location in the upcoming years. The plan is to complete the planning process by the end of the year and to start to implement the new master plan as soon as 2025.
